Mackinder predicted that there were three powers that were capable of conquering the World Island – i.e. Eurasia – the place where history is made. It could have been Germany in 20^th century after defeating Russia and mastering its interior to the Urals and the Caspian Sea. It could be Russia (the Soviet Union) and now it could be China.
