War Plans assume two basic scenarios for achieving a military victory over China: the direct approach and the indirect approach, where the latter can be further divided into sub-variants: distant blockade and defending the First Island Chain or off-shore control, known in the literature on the subject as ‘war-at-sea’ or ‘maritime denial.’
